Jakarta, October 2026 - D&W successfully represented its client in a civil dispute against PT Urban Jakarta Propertindo, Tbk. ("UJP"), arising from an apartment unit transaction.
The dispute concerned the client's payment of IDR 1.204.945.180 for an apartment unit. Despite the agreed transaction and subsequent cancellation of the purchase, the client had not received the apartment unit or the corresponding reimbursement.
Following the filing of a civil lawsuit before the South Jakarta District Court, the parties subsequently agreed to resolve the dispute amicably through a settlement.
The settlement provided for a total settlement amount of IDR 1.204.945.180, representing the amount to be reimbursed to the client. The agreed settlement was subsequently formalized in an Deed of Settlement and confirmed by the South Jakarta District Court in Case No. 196/Pdt.G/2026/PN. Jkt/Sel.
From Dispute to Resolution
The matter demonstrates how litigation can serve not only as a mechanism for adjudication, but also as a strategic means of creating a clear path toward resolution.
In this matter, the filing of the lawsuit provided the necessary legal framework for the parties to engage in a structured settlement process. The eventual agreement enabled the client to pursue recovery of the amount at issue while providing a definitive and enforceable resolution to the dispute.
The settlement agreement was incorporated into the court proceedings, with the parties agreeing to comply with its terms and conditions. The Court subsequently approved the settlement and ordered the parties to comply with its terms.
At D&W, dispute resolution is not limited to pursuing a judgment. Our approach is to understand the legal position, identify the client's objectives, and assess the most effective path toward a practical and commercially meaningful resolution.
In this matter, litigation provided the necessary leverage for the parties to reach a structured settlement, while the settlement itself provided the client with a clear and enforceable mechanism for recovery.
A successful dispute resolution does not always end with a court judgment. In the right circumstances, litigation can create the leverage necessary to achieve a commercially meaningful settlement — one that protects the client's legal position while providing a practical path toward recovery.
At D&W, we approach disputes with the objective of achieving outcomes that are not only legally sound, but commercially meaningful.
